Self-Portraits

I need a scanner.  Spending more time taking pictures of these and tweaking them in Photoshop than actually drawing them.

Fifteen minutes:

One and five minutes:

I also need food.  I just bought groceries two days ago and now there's nothing to eat.  Someone bring me food.  I will love you forever.

Taco Bell is Taco Gross

I've been craving Taco Bell for the past couple of weeks for some reason.  It's probably the effect of some kind of invasive advertising that I'm unaware of.  So I finally went to one last night.  Absolutely disgusting.  How the hell did I eat that crap before?

Here's some sketches.  The one above was done from photo reference.  The others are either still life or the frowny-looking people at Taco Bell.  Everyone there looked severely depressed.  What's up with that?

I noticed that I'm getting better at doing live figure drawing.  Really nailing a good form even though they're twitching and changing positions every couples of seconds.  But my live figures still look a little meek.  You can tell by my drawings that I'm as uncomfortable drawing them as they are getting drawn.

Going to try to drink and draw.  Maybe that will fix my problem.

Teen Fortress, Too!

True or False:  I laughed for three straight hours while editing this video.  Answer:  Almost True, but definitely not False.

This video's from a couple of months ago.  Me and two of my friends are just completely ruining the red team's day.  I added some familiar festive music that I think really captures the essence of being a Spy.

In case you haven't seen them, here's two more videos of me doing dumb stuff in Team Fortress 2.

I don't know what's up with each video size and quality.  I rendered and exported them all with the highest settings possible.  One day, I'll figure out how to use these You-Tubes.

Hooray!

Yes!  I won the Les RAV art contest!  It is such an honor to have my art chosen for something, let alone for the first album cover of a band that I like!  Want to watch a cute girl read my name from her bathroom tub?  Well, you're in luck.

Progress, Process, and Whatever the Antonym of Failure Is

A couple of weeks ago, I gave this Les RAV contest a try.  After hours of frustration, I decided to put the contest on hold and hammer away at 3ds Max instead.  The weeks flew by and when Valentine's Day arrived I remembered the deadline.  I had a million other things to do, but hell I always have a million other things to do.  So I set aside a couple of days to focus on the contest.  And I'm glad I did.  What a fun project, and I made something pretty.

I don't know the exact number of hours I spent on this, but if I had to guess it was somewhere between twelve to fourteen hours.  Below is an animated WIP of some of my progress.  The initial stages are lost in time thanks to my incessant use of "flatten image".  It's not my fault Photoshop flips out when I have a million layers open.  Or maybe it is.

If you haven't heard of Les RAV, do check them out.  Here's one of my favorite songs:

Happy Valentine's Day!

I wonder how long I can survive on potatoes and bananas before my body starts suffering from some kind of nutrient deficiency.  I'm also drinking a lot of coffee, cream, and milk.  The milk's gotta count for something.

Here's another one hour study.  This one's from Shameless.

And the WIP:

Happy Valentines Day!  I will be spending mine with my true love -- Photoshop.

Winter Is Coming

I'm trying to get out of my portrait comfort zone and into scenes and environments, so I tried out a new exercise today and I'm very pleased with the results.  I grabbed a screenshot from Game of Thrones and painted as much as I could in an hour.

I didn't really measure or plan anything out, I just tried to put as much information onto the painting as quickly as possible before time ran out.

The exercise really helped me with form and value, and loosened up my stiff hand.  I will definitely be doing this again very soon.

Fighting the Weekend Burnout

The weekend's here and I'm trying my absolute hardest not to crash.  Every weekend, I sleep for most of the day, then I waste the rest of the time watching TV or playing games.  In a desperate attempt to stay productive, here's some absolute random stuff I made.

Some stick figure illustrations for a friend's project:

And some shoops:

So many great things can replace the original white tiger!  I wish I could get paid for this.

Drawing in Photoshoop

I haven't seen my roommate in days.  I've come to the conclusion that he's either lying in a gutter somewhere, killed someone and fled to Mexico, or that he's a superhero.  Of course, I'm hoping for the latter.  He still owes me money.

I drew this today from photo reference.

There's a couple of slight differences, but I personally like my drawing better.  I made her give eye contact and made her look less strung out.

I love Tumblr, the "source" of this image and inspiration for most of my studies and current personal work.  I just wish its users cited their images better, instead of regurgitating blog posts and spreading lower resolution scans like venereal diseases.  So much for integrity.

Slappin' Colors Like There's No Tomorrow!

My efforts to loosen up left me with this image.

I skipped the drawing phase and the value phase and just started slapping colors down like I used to.  I didn't realize how hard it was to paint something without a drawing to guide me.  But I kept throwing layers at it until something pleasing came out.

Note to self:  Never skip the drawing phase.

Self-Portrait

Another thing I haven't done in years.  A self-portrait.  My favorite part is the veins in my eyeballs.

And the WIP (work in progress).

I'll do another after I get a haircut.

Drawings

I haven't played TF2 in a while.  Can you tell that I'm itching to play it?

Also, I haven't done a still life in years.  I gotta do them more often.  I'm pretty sure it'll fix the "flat painting" problem I have and help loosen up my drawing skills.

That multi-tool pliers is the coolest-looking thing I own.

HELLO

I decided to move my blog here from Tumblr for various reasons.  It took me an hour or two to tweak and customize a theme, but I'm fairly happy with the results.

I drew this yesterday.  He kind of looks like my old man.
